 How do I Remove and Enable Protection for Word Forms?

Word 2007 Directions to Protect a Form:

Once you have completed editing any of our Word fillable forms with your business header information and business logo you should re-enable form protection before using the form as a fillable Word form. Follow these instructions to lock the document.

  1. Click the Office button at the top left corner.
  2. Click on the Word Options button.
  3. On the left side of the Word Options window, click Popular.
  4. Check the box next to Show Develop tab in the ribbon.
  5. Click OK.
  6. Click the Developer Tab in the top menu of Word 2007.
  7. Then click Protect Document.
  8. The Restrict Formatting and Edit window displays.
  9. In 2. Editing restrictions, select the box to Allow only the type of editing in the document.
  10. In the drop down that appears under 2, select Filling in forms.
  11. In 3. Start enforcement, select the button Yes, Start Enforcing Protection.
  12. A window will pop up asking for a password. You can bypass this by not inputting a password by selecting OK.
  13. Now you can tab from field to field in your fillable form.
Word 2007 Directions to Stop Protection on a Form:

If you need to edit a document once it is protected, you will need to "Stop Protection". The default password for all SnappyFORMS is "snappy" (case sensitive, do not use quotes).

  1. Click the Developer Tab in the top menu of Word 2007.
  2. Click Protect Document.
  3. The Restrict Formatting and Edit window displays.
  4. Select the Stop Protection button.
  5. The document can now be edited.
Word 2003 Directions to Protect a Form:

If you want to use any of the SnappyFORMS Word fillable templates as a fillable form in Word 2003, you must lock the document before using it. Follow these instructions to lock the document.

  1. From the View menu, select Toolbars.
  2. Select Forms in the Toolbars menu.
  3. The Forms Toolbar will display.
  4. On the Forms toolbar, select the “Protect Form” button. The button looks like a lock.
  5. The form is now locked. You can tab from field to field in your fillable form.
Word 2003 Directions to Remove Protection from a Form:
